Jules
et Jim - Swimming CD Single
The Jules et Jim debut have now been released. Two tracks,
'Swimming' and 'Only A Fool', were recorded and were released
on the 7th of June, initially in Belgium.
"We worked at a great studio called Caraibes with a whizz-kid genius
engineer, Vincent. The tracks are being mixed by a top guy called Gilles
who co-incidentally worked with a band called Autour de Lucie, who I
really like."
- Julianne. Two CD's were released, distributed by Sony.
Although
an album is expected to follow, this is a side project, of Julianne's,
who is still working on her own material. Jean-Marc Leaderman
describes her solo work to be much closer to Rock than Jules et Jim.
Q
Magazine - Where Are They Now
Q Magazine have feature a Where Are They Now article on All
About Eve. Possibly the first artcle on the long disbanded group
for a good seven years now. It features all the band members and
the projects they have been involved in since 1992.

The Jules et Jim debut release now nears completion. Two tracks,
'Swimming' and 'Only A Fool', were recorded last weekend
and are currently being mixed for release, initially in Belgium.
"I
went to Belgium last weekend to sing two tracks for the Jules et Jim
project. There is now backing for the project and these two tracks will
be released as a single shortly. In Belgium initially. The tracks are
called 'Swimming' and 'Only A Fool'.
We
worked at a great studio called Caraibes with a whizz-kid genius engineer,
Vincent. The tracks are being mixed by a top guy called Gilles who co-incidentally
worked with a band called Autour de Lucie, who I really like."
Julianne is now also writing material with old friends Andy Cousin and
Mark Thwaite, which she describes as
"... a healthy juxtaposition the the J et J stuff, this is really
very guitar-heavy. Very exciting. This is so recent that the project
doesn't even have a name."

Jules
et Jim demos are complete !!
The Jules et Jim demos are now complete and Julianne is sending
them to record companies. Julianne :
Well,
I've finally been to Bruxelles (I loved the Eurostar !) to do the Jules
et Jim demo. So its time to send copies to record companies ....
So in the words of Doris Day "Whatever will be will be"
Julianne
feels relaxed about sending the demos as she sees this as a side project
to whatever she eventually does herself. Lets hope it doesn't
take too long for these demos to reach fruition.

The following is taken from the site Grave
News where
a sample of the song Pure Complex is available featuring
Julianne's vocals.
The band are currently locked into a north London studio completing
work on their new album. Early indications is that it should be the
bands most coherent work to date with everything running smoothly in
the studio. Julianne Regan from All About Eve is currently
working with them and the partnership is currently proving very fruitful.
The Album is now entilted "Descent" rather than the
working title "Exiles". Shops will have copies next February,
but we'll have copies as from the end of September for a bargain £10.
A sample of the This Burning Effigy/Julianne Regan soungwriting
partnership can be heard on their website with a downloadable version
of "Pure Complex"
"Pure Complex" will offically be released before the album
next January and feedback (as always) is very welcome...
Visit
the site Grave
News for
clips of the track "Pure Complex". Although not a perfect
quality copy of the song it illustrates exactly how gothic the band
are. Julianne's vocals are dominant on the track, which for fans
will be well worth getting a copy of.
Jules
et Jim Project
Julianne
will be making further progress on the Jules et Jim project,
later this month and will hopefully be working some of her own tracks
soon. Julianne recently contacted our sister site In The Clouds
:
"The
reasons I've not been in touch have on the whole been fairly
mundane - work, sleep, work....I am currently fixated by two beautiful
albums. The new Mansun album 'Six' is exquisite, musically
kaleidoscopic and lyrically it spits and whispers a negative beauty.
The other, the Manic Street Preachers new album, is such a restorative
dose of dignified and simply beaautiful, well, 'anthems' I suppose.
I've
always loved their lyrics, but have sometimes found elements of
the music a bit alien to me, but this album sees the music living up
to the lyrics. Both of these albums bring tears.
I'm booked onto Eurostar for the end of October to record maybe 3, 4
or 5 "Jules et Jim" songs with Jean-Marc. It
really is a fairly 'pop' project despite its obliqueness. I'm also back
into demo-ing some of my own things. Oddly, the lack of computer hasn't
been as 'end of the world' as I'd feared. It's made me turn my attention
to guitars (sorry, electric rather than acoustic!)...if only I had more
*time*!
I have saved up my holiday from work and am taking two whole weeks off.
I'm going to hole myself up in my room, a fridge full of yoghurt, fruit,
chocolate and wine, a shelf full of inspiring literature, watch some
*good* television and FINALLY get my songs into a listenable
form. Write lyrics that *mean* something and set them to chords that
*do* something."
Questionnaire
Results are in !
May 28th 1998 Julianne is currently working on a project "Jules
et Jim", with Jean-Marc, a Belgian friend of hers. Its completely
unrelated to AAE or Mice and Julianne is very excited about it and seems
sure it will be released.
Julianne is also working on her own material : "At the same
time, I'm still working on my own songs. Each one seems to be taking
a different direction, so, the only cure is to carry on and see what
happens. I'm also still partially in manual-land, wire-soldering hell,
so it takes time."
May
18th 1998 In a mail to Tiny Window (that's been lost in space for the
last few months) Julianne clarifies the split of the project herself
and Marty were working upon and a near semi-Eve reunion. Its old news
now, but still an interesting read.(Read more.)
April
25th 1998 Julianne is still looking forward to recording music but is
understandably put off by the music industry that has let her down.
In a posting to the Eve's mailing list she states :
"I AM desperate to do some music, but I am in no position to give
up my job. I am fortunate in that my sister has given me her Mac on
a long-term loan, so, with the help of Cubase, I am now able to write
again. I just need to clear the decks and plug in. I don't know if music
will ever be a full-time thing again. I sometimes wish that it could
be, but, deep down, feel that it would be hard for me to deal with the
'industry' again. I don't have the patience required to humour/deal
with the people involved. I'm going to take it step by step. Write some
songs, sing them, and then decide whether it's appropriate to try to
get a record deal, or, to release the stuff myself. Whatever, I do promise
to keep you in the picture."
