Just got back from the Borderline and by gum what
a superb evening's entertainment. Great to meet a few of you lot finally,
amazing that you'd want to talk to me after some of the rubbish I write.
Set list was identical to Coventry if memory serves
(haven't had chance to go through the tape yet). No sign of nerves that
I could tell once all the underwear adjusting was out the way (those
who were there will understand that one).
They
looked relaxed, Julianne was spot on with the vocals and probably singing
better than I've ever heard her. My oft expressed thoughts of Marty
are undergoing a major change. He played a blinder although some of
what he tried to play wasn't totally suited to acoustic guitar IMO.
Andy was Andy, sat at the back keeping fairly quiet
altough he was picked on rather mercilessly by Julianne and Marty who
could have quite a career as a comedy duo based on their banter tonight.
Mark was there somewere but couldn't be persuaded to come onstage, moaning
about the lack of drums I think :o)
The two songs that were unidentified at Coventry sounded
brilliant, especially "Bleed" and Miss World was rather superb
too, easily my favourite Mice track. Personally, I thought some songs
worked a bit better than others and Share It With Me was an odd one
to finish with but what the hell, they're small quibbles.
One thing that struck me was that I don't think I've
ever heard an audience so quiet while the songs are being played. Usually
there's lots of chatter going on but tonight everyone seemd in awe of
what we were witnessing and paid rapt attention in case they missed
something, quite a sight to behold.
My
only complaint (and it's a minor one) was that the guitars weren't quite
loud enough and almost got drowned out occasionally by Julianne's vocals.
Not terrible by any means but could have done with a bit more tweaking
IMO.
That's my initial thoughts, if you haven't got a ticket
yet for any of the other shows, grab them if you can. I was surprised
to see so many ticket touts outside, must have been quite a demand and
there was quite a queue of people without tickets trying to get in too.
Finally, Julianne said there'd be a thrash metal version
of Lady Moonlight on the next album.....you have been warned :o)
