3rd & 4th June - Chelmsford & Cambridge

Chelmsford : Just got back from the gig and what a corker it turned out to be. The venue looked less than promising on arrival as the bar was practically next to the stage, the room long and thin and we all now know by now what that can lead to.

There was a (less than enthralling) support act who didn't start until about 8:30 if memory serves which meant that the Eve's came on very late and did just one set but there wasn't much of the usual banter so they soon rattled through the songs and realised that they'd gone through the set list too quickly. Much discussion ensued as they decided what to play from the songs left out. The talking from the audience wasn't too bad (although being right at the front it was drowned out anyway) and the band chose to ignore it and nothing at all was said. Maybe having all the usual familiar faces sat on a single row of chairs in front of the stage helped. Whatever the reason, they just played the songs as only they know how and it turned into a great evening although it got extremely hot and they all looked shattered by the time they finished.

And so the party rolls on to Cambridge ......

Cambridge : First rate. The usual crowd of travelling list members turned up nice and early and spent the afternoon trying to not get run over by Andy as he drove round the car park in a less than responsible manner with Julianne clinging to her seat (or so it looked to me) :o)

Having not been maimed by reckless bass players, a mad dash ensured to make
sure we got the front row seats and I was immediately struck by how promising the venue seemed.

The bar was away from the main auditorium. There was a fairly big stage, great lighting and sound and unlike Chelmsford, they played the full 2 sets although Mine was played at Leeds (can't remember Worcester too clearly) and was missing tonight.

As has been proved at other seated venues, the audience was very attentive with only the occasional comment coming form the floor. Again, very little talking from the band, possibly in part because of Julianne's sore throat which she kept apologising for, but to be honest you'd have to get picky to have really noticed any major problems. Hope that doesn't get any worse for the two Borderline shows at the end of the week.

Another great night and a fine note on which to enter back into reality and start my new job in the morning.
