After being dropped by their record company All About Eve split with no official announcements. Andy Cousin went on to join The Mission, with whom he toured and appeared on their recent album 'Neverland'. Marty Wilson-Piper continues with The Church who have since released an album 'Sometime Anywhere' and plan to release another very shortly. He is also currently involved in several other projects including a solo album and a band formed with Mark and Andy, in which Marty sings. The band is called 'Seeing Stars' and an album may be expected towards the end of the year on a Scandinavian label, Border Records. Marty is also working with Brix Smith of The Fall fame. Mark Price has since worked with the likes of Vox Populi, The Cure and (gulp) Right Said Fred. He is also involced in Mice having played on all the tracks on the forthcomming album. Since the beginning of 1993 Julianne Regan has been far from dormant but at one time did attempt to forego her musical career for one as a dental assistant ! Thankfully this didn't work out and Julianne's talents live to see another day.
When Bernard Butler left Suede rumours circulated that he was intending to work with Julianne after the two were seen together at a Charlatans after show party in London. These turned out to be justified when the two headed for France to record some material. Julianne soon found herself persuading people that she had not been the decisive factor in Suede's split. In an interview for Vox magazine Julianne said "I found myself being blamed. I had to convince people I wasn't the Yoko element." The pair did appear together at Hampstead's Raj Tearooms and some material was recorded, but the partnership was not to last. The tracks were apparently quite folky, acoustic and would have appealed to Eve fans, but were not in the direction Julianne wished. The press reports that she then accused the guitarist of possessing 'diabolical tendencies' to which Bernard replied "I'm not the anti-Christ. I'm Bernard." Julianne then returned to the UK and after securing a solo deal with Permanent Records began to work on new material. Much of December 1994 and the post Christmas period was spent at London Church studio recording a self-produced album. This was reported, at the time, to be 'non-folky' and unlike anything she had done before. Initial plans were for an album in April 94 and a small tour throughout the spring. This proved however, to be a little premature and was re-scheduled for the end of September that year. Permanent Records set the first single 'Dear Sir' to be released just before the album, which was under the working title of 'The Innocent'. Throughout the following months information concerning the bands new line up began to filter through the press. Julianne has never been keen to work as a solo artist preferring instead to work within the security of a band. Tim McTighe was introduced to Julianne by Mark Price with whom he had worked in a French Europop band called Vox Populi. After the two had been working together for some time they met Christian Hayes, otherwise known as Bic (after his band Bic and the Biros). During a rough evening in the studios, Julianne struggled with the guitar part and headed down to the pub with Tim. Here they met Bic taking a break from rehearsals with Miranda Sex Garden. He returned with them to the studio where he proved worth keeping hold of. Not having been involved in the writing of the songs Bic gave the material a fresh feel. He really lifted it for me, really obliqued it all, and then we all started egging each other on. To begin with Tim was a bit concerned, like 'Look what they're doing to my songs ma' and Gary thought Bic was a lunatic, but everybody got into it in the end. On November 13th '95 the band were set to release their first single 'Mat's Prozac' under the name of Mice. Julianne didn't want to go under her own name, although Permant Records insisted of tagging 'staring Julianne Regan' on the end. This was, presumably, to make the band more appealing and recognisable. Hopefully the stregth of the new materal and the obvious appeal of Mice will make this unnecessary in future releases.
