Once
upon a time there was a band. A band called Mice ...
Questions
? ... I was full of them, who were 'the
others' - did they matter ? Where had Julianne
been all this time, the advertising and distribution
of "Matt`s Prozac" seemed pretty
low-key, why ?
Tour
dates were promised and then not forthcoming,
then there were tour dates which were postponed
(the Liverpool opening date seemed to be called
off on the night, just as well I checked)
and then more tour dates but no more releases.
So on Sunday April 5th I pointed the gadget
(my beloved car) in the direction of a hotel
in Wolverhampton only knowing two songs! -

Yes, unlike the Murphy's, Julianne IS bitter!
The result of the Mice project was one big let-down.
It was never really a proper band because the record company wouldn't
let it be. It would've cost them too much it seems. They always had
the agenda that I should be a solo-artist. I wanted, very much, for
this to be a band thing. I had written half of the songs myself pretty
much straight after the fall of AAE and co-written the other half with
a great chap called Tim McTighe about a year later. I put a massive
amount of effort into it only for the record company (and so the album)
to die a death only weeks after the album's release.
The
album was recorded by the then Suede engineer, Gary Stout, who I had
and have great admiration for. Mark played all of the drums on it, Andy
guested on a couple of tracks, Marty on one. Tim and I shared guitar
parts and then Bic (ex-Levitation and Cardiacs and now
of Dark Star) stormed in and weaved his black magic through the songs.
The man is a genius.
This really could've been a band, but record
company greed and inefficiency killed it. We played a handful of gigs,
we died. I was pissed off. Still am. I'm also very curoius as to where
all the stock of the album went and how come it's available for purchase
through some American online company.I also wonder where the profits,
if there are any, are going. Yes, unlike the Murphy's, I AM bitter!

... Half crystal
rush, half killer distortion, intermittently
interrupted by vicious slahes of metal. A gig
in King's Cross, with Bic Levitation on guitar,
was a bigger surprise still. Mice
