Mark : Right. Live music tonight comes from Mice.
Julianne ...
Top-us Hole-us. Right that's Mice with there recent single The Milkman. ...This is their second tune Mat's Prozac ... MAT'S PROZAC
Mat's Prozac performed live by Mice. Julianne ? Hello Do the introductions to all the band. Some of them who've been to the Spar and some who haven't. Dominic didn't go to Spar and he's drumming. He used to be in the Cardiacs ? He did indeed. A talented gentleman I saw him at Reading. But you we're a bit reigned in Dominic because they made you wear headphones and play to a tape. He's chuckling to the memory. We have Tim on the bass who didn't go to the Spar because he made us get the beer. We have David on the guitar who did go to Spar. Marty on guitar who didn't go to Spar. We've got some of you're records Marty from when you were in The Church. Starfish that's a good 'un He still is ! Are you still going ? Marty : Yep Are you ? Are you just taking time out are you ? Marty : Nope Doing two jobs. OK fair enough. The Church, a bit pearls before swine over here aren't they ? Ali, she was in Spar. But I've cleared that up.. I know why you didn't recognise them. They've confessed that when they went to Spar they were wearing afro wigs and nurses uniforms ! I thought that. I thought they were just Lard and his mates so I was just trying to avoid them. Is it true that you used to work for Sainsbury's with purple hair. I did ! It was my weekend job when I was at school. Did they sack you for having purple hair ? No, it got meant it got me a cushy job in the office Did it ? Because I worked at CO-OP with blue hair so we've probably got a lot in common. ... This is probably a painful memory but .. we're not going right back don't worry ... I know what you're going to say ! What am I going to say ? You're going to say ... 'You that time on Top Of The Pops ?' No, what was that ? Oh no !!! What was that go on. What did you do on Top Of the Pops. Oh god ! We had this hit and we were on .. Who was we ? This was in my ex-incarnation ... ... of All About Eve ? I wasn't going to mention it. Oh no I nearly got away with it. You've got to do it now. We were on Top Of The Pops and we had this little ballad that was doing very well and we were supposed to be miming it. So we we're chickens we were miming it. Basically it was going out live so everyone at home heard our song but we couldn't hear it through the monitors. So we were sat there like a pair of prize ex-gothic, folk lemons while the population of England laughed at us. But we got the sympathy vote and they let us back the next week. I never see that but I'll remember that now and every time I play one of your records I'll trip through that anecdote. Was you're anecdote worse then Mark ? No no no, I was going was just going to ask you ... you had a very short lived project. Everyone said you were working with Bernard Butler. Bernard Butler has been in here and he seemed all right to me and yet he seems to fall out with everyone. He fell out with Brett, he fell out with McAlmont and he fell out with you. So what is he ... is he a tosspot when he gets in the studio or what ? Well he's actually ... oh god this is a very delicate question ! He's very talented. There's a lovely side to him ... he's very good to my nephew. but .. but .. He gets his drinks in, but he's a little highly strung. But I was when I was his age, she patronisingly. OK, fair enough. I thought that was very diplomatic actually. I'll let you off with that as you walked into the other one. Evening Bernard if you're listening, life's too short. Right so what are you up to next then. You've just done a load of dates. Who supported you ? No nepotism involved or anything but my cousins band The Heads .... you had the delightful Heads in here the other week didn't you ? Yep. So what you doing next then ? More records or another fantastic tour ... Another fantastic single coming out in a couple of weeks called 'Dear Sir'. Then a fantastic album in July and then the fantastic Phoenix festival on the 20th. What days that ? Its the Sunday. So we can do our bit and then go see the Amps and Bjork. Right then ! Tell us about this next song because this is the conceptual ... , this is Mice on Ice isn't it ? Rick Wakeman cloaks and all that ? No its more crushed velvet really ! Is it, right ! No, no it isn't at all .... its just gorgeous. And it long. Yes, and its for people who are in bed now. OK then you can give it the sensitive start then. Mice .... BLUE SONIC BOY Those were Mice with a bit of an epic. It occurs to me that we didn't say what the title was before that but it was 'Blue Sonic Boy'. Julianne are you still there ? Yes. We've had this fax in .... "Sorry no poem for Ian but I did go to school with Julianne. I don't remember her purple hair but I have got a photo of her in navy school uniform after our O' Levels. Hi Julianne from Linnet" Linnet Kelly ! Hello Linnet Kelly. She kept me sane during Physics lessons And she's still out there. Well I'll give you this because it's got her phone number on top here. Brilliant. I'll be contacting you old girl. Fantastic reunion. Its like Surprise Surprise isn't it this ? You'll be playing the new single in the last half hour ? We will ! Tonight we've got Mice and here is there forthcoming single, the last one from them tonight ... 'Dear Sir.' DEAR SIR
Right that's 'Dear Sir' the forthcoming single from Mice performed live in session. Excellent session from them I think. Thanks very much to them and to Charlie Carghill for the doing the knobs honour. An interesting note that all the members of Mice are members of the Lyndsey De Paul fan club ......
