 Despite
the atrocious cover and the ridiculous name, Mice's single is actually
very fine indeed. As you'd expect, it's deeply Indie; Female vocals meaning
that I was instantly reminded of Salad, although Salad don't usually sound
this raw and they've got a more complicated sound.
The surprising thing is, track 2 on the CD is styled completely differently,
it's much more mature, less abrasive and is damn fine. With better packaging,
(you see hundred's of these CD's in bargain bins all the time, no matter
what the musics like), 'Mat's Prozac' could have been the start of something.
As it is, what's here is a very fine single, well worth checking out for
all Elastica, Salad, even Hole fans.
Edmund - GRIP, 13th November 1995
Bit
of an unusual one to try and put into a category, three piece with ex-Coventry
girl Julianne Regan on vocals, some of you may recall her from 'All
About Eve' some may not.
Strangely enough another member Tim McTighe is also from Coventry but
didn't know Regan from the city - wierd hu! Well this band is nothing
at all like 'AllAbout Eve' they produce a style of music in a similar
vein to Blur, Elastica, and Oasis but not quite. The single leaves you
wanting a taste for more but I guess we will have to wait until '96
for the album.
