The Volares, a Dallas based band, that include Bucks Burnett,
Dare Mason and Paul Averitt have released
an album called "The Night We Taught
Ourselves To Sing"
Recorded over several years
between Novembr 1994 and April 1998, the album
contains contributions from Julianne and Marty
Wilson-Piper. Julianne contributes lead vocals
to a track called "Asleep In Egypt"
and plays organ on "Open Book",
which Marty also plays lead guitar on.
The album is excellent and well worth getting
hold of, although numbers are limited to 500
CDs and 500 LPs. The internet site for Rockadelic
Records gives a number of distributers. The
Dallas Observer also gives a full review (A
copy of which is available on this site) along
with a number of tracks to preview (Asleep
In Egypt and Open Book not among them)
Asleep In Egypt
Julianne contributes lead vocals to this track
which is a slow, ambient and carries her voice
through clearly. Its not a sophisticated track,
it has simple lyrics and contains some of
Julianne's trademark layered vocals.
Rockadelic Records:
Don't let the name fool
you... this new Dallas based band sounds like
they O.D.'d on Zeppelin III while traveling
through the Egyptian Desert. The creationof
James "Big Bucks" Burnett, this
LP is a labor of love that consumed many years
and many trips to the U.K. to record. Guest
muscians like Marty Willson-Piper (The Church)
and members of the Page/Plant Middle Eastern
Ensemble makes this a visit to musical nirvanna.
Cover art by Martin Sharp (Cream: Wheels of
Fire, Disreali Gears) tops off this masterpiece
that is destined to becomea much desired item
in the years to come. Limited to 500 LPs (250
black vinyl, 250 colored vinyl) and 500 CD's.
