SEEING STARS REVIEW
I've
only had the Seeing stars CD for a few days
but it is relly growing on me and I would
stongly recomend everyone to do their best
to seek it out. I got my copy from Mike
Lloyd Music, Stoke on Trent, England it
was £16.49 but I got a 10% student
discount.
Anyway I though
I'd give you a track by track run down with
some useless, random thoughts. Warning,
Don't read on if you like surprises.
-
SALOME: Big
guitar sound, fairly typical of the album.
Looser structure than the Church but much
heavier than Eves. Infectious chorus.
-
I CAN'T HATE YOU:
A bit Churchy,
melodic and good vocals from Marty.
-
WHERE THE RAINSTORM
ENDS: Kind
of late 60's early 70's folk rock type
thing. Might appeal to Eves fans. Hippy
trippy.
-
STARING AT THE SUN:
Good song ruined
slightly by weak vocals and strange sounding
mix. Catchy hook though.
-
A DRINK TO DRIFT AWAY:
Big Eves type ballad
centred around a earie piano riff. Lyrics
are full of all that alienation, dispair
and existential pondering stuff. Treads
a fine line between gorgeous and pretentious.
-
UGLY AND CRUEL:
Another Eves type
ballad. So so. The keyboard line reminds
me of a Beatles song but I can't think
which.
-
VENUS OF PROSE:
Brilliant track
that should delight any Church fan. Full
of jangly guitars and tight band sound.
-
COME: Sexual
content to the lyrics. Sounds a bit like
Straitjacket Fits.
-
MESMERIZED:Great
big psycadellic guitar rock thing. Shaking
off the mantles of their other bands and
shows what they are capable of in their
own right.
-
PENDULUM: Not
quite made my mind up about this. Yeah
its kinda growing on me.
Their are references
from the Church , AAE (circa Ultra Violet)
and Marty's solo work but Seeing Stars do
fuse as a band to create their own fairly
unique sound. Although I would't call it
a classic it is a good album and deserves
a better chance and wider release than it
has got. Don't let the stupid linear notes
put you off. Do your best to hunt this album
out.
